Talking To Myself

Click on comments and by all means add some.  That's what the blogs are all about, talking
to the world, one person at a time.   We have had over 1000 hits in just over two weeks.
Please park a while and let off steam if you want.

2/27/08:   Today I was looking at a local newspaper's site and saw a survey about religion,
i.e. have you remained with or changed or left.  Not to make a statement about organized
religion, my problem is that they are skewed to come up with a result someone wants.  I
never seem to find the right answer that fits me.  Have you found that?  You want to say
something but you just have to pick the answer closest to your preference.  Politics, the
economy...you just have to join the masses and answer the dumb thing the best you can
or forget it.  That's probably the best choice.  Anyhoo, I filled in a letter to them with my
slant on the religious thing.  Will give you a heads up if they publish.

12/27/07:  Phone calls to Customer Service.
Do you ever get the feeling of being lost?  When you finally get a real person after playing
ring-around-the-rosie on the phone, (press this if you want...press that if you want--), try
getting through to them.   They will spout out sentence after sentence like parrots.  and if
you do get a question in, they will repeat the same thing.  Try cutting into that to bring them
back on track and they become defensive.  They may even hang up on you.
Not all companies' and municipalities' employees act this way.  Some still have respect for
the person who in essence pays their salaries.  They are the ones that bring my sanity back.
We might even have a few laughs; we sometimes take ourselves too seriously,
don't you think?

2/16/07:   A call I made recently was to an advocate (?) in the Internal Revenue Service.
The reason I called was because an original filing of tax papers (plus documentation
regarding a deceased person) was lost.  The State of Massachusetts mailed a refund quickly.
These monies go into an estate account.  All monies should be accounted for there and bills
paid accordingly.
Last month, a Federal agent told me to file again with letters of testamentary etc.  I did.
Return receipt was signed on January 31, 2008.
Yesterday, the advocate said that it takes 4 weeks to mail check unless there is paper
work.  That takes another 4 weeks.
While going through the piles of paper home, I had come across a form with an EIN
number.  I told the advocate (?) that I came across this, saying that the original paperwork
may have been filed under that number.  Yes, it seemed from her grunt on the other end,
she did find something.  When I brought up the specifics about the original filing, she
repeatedly snapped,  "You did not say that, you told me you sent the return in in January."

Is it not possible that both statements could be true?  Am I not getting through to the gray
matter in her brain?
Actually, I think I kept my cool fairly well.

"What numer is on the tax return?," she asked.
"Which number do you want?," I asked
"I'll say this again.  What number is on the return?"  I had given her the deceased's
Social, the EIN number, all sorts of ID.  Maybe she wanted the number on the EIN form,
an OMB something.  There was also a deceased's number typed near her name, a phone
number (since disconnected, as I was not allowed to use it under my name), my Social.
Lots and lots of numbers to choose from.  Which one did she want?
"You're making this harder than it should be," she snapped, "I'll ask you  once more,
what number is on the return?"
Somewhere in this back and forth, she told me she could not give me anything.
(Information, that is)
"You didn't find anything filed under the EIN number?"
     "I didn't say that."
Obviously, something was found.  I will go to my local IRS office, where I can talk face
to face with someone and see if the overpayment can be returned and the probate can
go forward.  We' will be coming too close to the next tax filing!!

Yesterday, I hung up the phone and anger finally came to the surface.  It has been
a year today that Sharon passed.
